About Information Security. As I had said in my first entry I work in an IT Security Area, and in this entry I would like to talk about the importance of Information Security and how to protect our data or information on a computer system or internet. First of all I would like to explain why the entry name is Information Security instead of Computer Security. It is because information is everything. What you have in your computer is information, what there is in the central systems of a company is information, but your notes in your notepad, your prints, is also information. There are three categories in which we can classify the Information in a company. Those are, Integrity, Confidentiality and Availability. Integrity is related to about the veracity of the data. Confidentiality defines who has access to the different levels of information. Not everybody can access all the information, each person needs to access specific data to do his job. And availability means that I have to access the information at the time that I need. Talking about confidentiality in personal data, when I give a talk about this them so many people ask me about facebook. They tell me: “Is it dangerous to have a facebook account ?? And to these questions I answer: “Is it dangerous to have a car??” All depends of the use that you will give to it. If you share all of you in fecebook, maybe that would not be good. I always say, you know who enters your home, but this does not mean that you show to all your pictures from your vacation. The same happens in facebook, do really you know all of your contacts?? Or their intentions? Next time that you login on facebook, think about that and sure you will find people that you have never seen in person. That is the reason why you need to have restriction for your shared data. Another recurrent question is about the password. Everybody complains that good password are complex and difficult to remember, but if I tell you an easy way to have safe password. First you need is choice a word of 8 characters as minimum that will be easy to remember, then change some vowels by numbers, example e by three or o by zero, and finally choice one or two consonants in uppercase, and that is all, now you have a safe password. I hope that the entry can help you to understand a few concept about information security.

Talking about confidentiality in personal data, when I give a talk about this, them so many people ask me about facebook.

Everybody complains that a good password are is complex and difficult to remember, but if I tell you an easy way to have a safe password. First you need is  choice to choose a word of 8 characters as a minimum that will be easy to remember, then change some vowels by numbers, example e by three or o by zero, and finally choice one or two consonants in uppercase, and that is all, now you have a safe password.

I hope that the entry can help you to understand a few concept about information security.
