Railway
Today I was reading the news and found an article about the railway track from Medina to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. It's being built by a Spanish company, and the works it seems that so far the work has not been very successful.
No wonder that they are having problems, because of the sand dunes and challenges ofthe landscape, I also read that the local authorities are very angry about that and the work delays.
It seems to me honest to say that the sand problem must be one among a bunch of many, another being like the fact that that the company building the railway is made up of twelve others, which could lead to inefficiency and mismanagement.
Moreover, despite the internal political concerns, the technical issues seem to be overwhelming. The engineers thought about building a five-meter tall concrete wall placed on the windward side of the rail line so as to stop the wind and sand.
I don't work in those companies, but as an engineer I hope they fix their problems in order to finish the work on time and for the local authorities sake who were confident in Spanish technology.
