Discussion about "true art and music" :D ( Some context ) Discussion about 4:33 from Jhon Cage (a musical piece when the orchestra and pianist makes no sound the entire presentation) Person 1 said : ARRANGED sound is music. INTENDED sound is music. CONCEIVED sound is music. DESIGNED sound is music. UNINTENDED and UNCONTROLLED background noise over a COMPOSED SILENCE is NOT music. I already stated this twice at length in this thread. If you cannot understand the nuance between design and randomness, then I get why you don't understand the nuance between sound and music. However, my point still stands: if all sound was music, then there wouldn't be a need for both words "sound" and "music". THis is basic philology. Now If you all could be so kind as to respect some people's desire to use nuance in order for two words to keep a reason to exist, that would be delightful. To sum it up: the only way this piece is music is if you have a definition of music that makes it no different from sound whatsoever, and therefore, it is completely pointless to pay a ticket to go see an orchestra play it, when the street does it for free 24/7. Person 2 answer: With that logic, then I guess the word "obliterate" is completely useless, since it means the same thing as "destroy." Or maybe "corrupt" versus "tainted." Or even "stupid" versus "idiotic." Or "purple" versus "violet." Or even "car" versus "automobile." These examples can go on for as long as the English language exists. If you don't like it, then stop using synonyms, or stop speaking English altogether. Another thing you should stop doing: Overusing "nuance." That'd be nice. Delightful. Pleasurable. Good. Lovely. Yet more words that are useless because they coexist in one language, wouldn't you say? -------------- My Response --------------: Humm...mostly of us could agree (maybe) about that eolic harp tree at the hills is making music, but... no one is controlling that machinery, just manipulated when builded it. It's intended to be there, making a lot of endlessly sounds. Maybe people cough are intended to be there, even they're random. I think that the word "music" and "art" could be in expansion :) maybe that's what make us confuse Thanks for anyone who has read this large text, I'm sorry :( =)

Aeolian Harp, Eolic Harp that sounds with the wind trough its pipes. It's just an example, that instrument it's not in the presentation of the silence of 4:33
