Technology-addicted Italians: notebooks are the new status symbol Technology has become the new status symbol among modern men and women. This picture was taken by Nextplora, in collaboration with Samsung, during a research titled “Italians’ status symbols”, carried out over a sample of 1021 Italians. It shows how one user over two sees the notebook as the object that most characterises men and women of our times, and more than a third of the population (76%) believes that today's essential status symbol objects are those belonging to the technology world. The technology universe in the collective consciousness outscores some more traditional fields, associated to the “must-have” concept for many years, like those of accessories (54%) and cars (48%). Technology that not only does ease our lives making them more comfortable and fun, but also let us identify with its objects and make us feel in line with the times and with other people. Objects of desire which have now become essential in our daily lives. More in detail, the research unveils how Italians can’t do without their notebook, insomuch as that if they were to deal with the unfortunate possibility of a sudden fire where they can put only one object in a safer place, 76% of them will save their portable computer, while the other 48% will save their accessories and clothes (45%). Notebook also becomes a status symbol when linked to male consciousness. If women are mostly connected with luxury accessories such as designer purse (67%), 57% of the interviewed believes that notebooks are the objects that most characterises the modern man, and have already become essential tools to which commit contents, memories, data and information used in everyday working and leisure activities.
