==== Чаще используется фраза In contract. In contrary, даже не знаю, никогда не встречал в литературе. Типичное устойчивое выражение звучит как on the contrary и дословно переводится как "Напротив". "Rose up" и "went down", "ascended", "descended" это как "вверх" и "вниз", пожалуй просто лучеше стилистически сочетаются. И да descend это настоящее, тут бы лучше прошлое время поставить, глагол то правильный.

==== Если разговаривают влюблённые, я неправ и Darling тут подходит, но если это друзья, то по контексту лучше впишется My friend. И да - артикли это головная боль, тут идёт не речь о работе как об абстарктном понятии, а не об одной возможной работе из какого-то подмножества.
