What do names mean? Do english speakers' names mean what they usually mean? For example, the name BILL shows(that) the parents want their kids make a fortune. The name LOVE means love(like), rather than simply the tone(l-a-v) The name FRANK means the parents want their kids to be a honest man. Is it true? Anyhow, I think people will associate someone with the meaning of the word of her or his name. In China, the names usually contain parents's expectations. So I'm in a puzzle.

What do names mean?

Do eEnglish speakers' names mean what they usually mean?
For example, the name BILL "Bill" shows (that) that the parents want their kids boy (kids is plural, but a singular noun is needed here) to make a fortune.
The name LOVE "Love" means love (like), affection. rather than simply the tone(l-a-v).
The name FRANK "Frank" means the parents want their kids child to be a honest man.
Is it this true?
Anyhow, I think people will associate someone with the literal meaning of the word of her or his name.
In China, the names usually contain/embody/indicate/reveal ("contain" isn't really wrong, but I think these other words are more precise) the parents's (To make a plural noun possessive, just add an apostrophe. An "s" after the apostrophe is not needed unless the plural noun does not already end in an "s".) expectations for their child.
So I'm in a puzzle puzzled.

Quotation marks are often used when referring to a specific word or letter. That is why I changed capital BILL to "Bill", and why I put "s" in quotes in my explanation about plural possessives.

Thank you ! I got it. English Speakers focus more on the SOUND when reading but not the literal meaning isn't it? Otherwise, names follow someone's name to in memory of someone. Does the prep 'after' show this reality ? So when English speakers see a name ,they don't associate too much with the literal meaning, but tend to just make sure the pronunciation ,right? By the way Kevin Love is a NBA player ,oh it seems to be his family name rather than first name. Actually, Chinese people may get a name associated with money such as 鑫 ,because it looks like three golden mountains :)

In the west, we usually give names because they sound nice. Sometimes because the parents liked someone with that name, a saint, a hero or family member. We rarely think of the meaning.

Bill is usually short for William. I don't think anyone thinks of the name in terms of money. In general I don't think most names are literal, but sometimes they are. Love is not a typical name, at least not in the USA. Sometimes people will name someone based on a quality they admire (Grace, Faith...), but usually they are either named after someone important to them, or because they like the sound of the name.
