Do You Have The Soul of a Free Man or The Soul of a Slave? Why am I asking that question? Aren't we all free? Well, we are, but everyone in another range. We live in society which gives everyone freedom and everyone has an option to choose the way of life. We are free to move, to say what we want, to demonstrate, to end in jail, etc. But are we free? Some people are free and some aren't. So, lets look at the word freedom to understand the thing more. Freedom for me means to be able to move wherever I want at anytime, to talk about whatever I want, to do business with anyone I want and so on. But I don't feel free when I have a liabilities like a mortgage, loan payments, credit card debts etc. I feel like a slave and with less and less freedom with each other liability which I have. This is the difference between the soul of a free man and the soul of a slave. What can I do to become more free? I have chosen this way. I do not go on vacation, because I invest my money in the education instead and thereby I increase my ability to earn more. Every 15 % which I earn I invest, sometimes I invest up to 35 % of my earnings. I am slowly buying my freedom with these investments. I am also saving money for future investment which will be IELTS certificate. This is a way how I am going to buy my time, because I won't need to visit lessons of English at my university anymore. I also started to learn accounting, because it is important for money management and in the future for my assets management. I am becoming more and more free by all these steps. Another thing which I see is the bad decision making of my friends. The biggest issue is that they want everything now, they are not able to wait a while, so they go deeper into a debt. I think debt is good, but just in case when someone else pays for it. Otherwise it is bad debt and it is able to eat you alive, slowly but surely. When anyone takes a loan, then they have to pay an interest. The interest doesn't need to be high, but it is the money which you would have invested. Paying the interest lowers your purchasing power, just because you wanted something now and was unable to wait. If it will save you money in the future and you have used paper and calculator to prove it, then it is OK. But if it won't save you anything and just eat money from you pocket, than you did something wrong. So, Do You Have The Soul of a Free Man or The Soul of a Slave? Pavel BTW: The name of this article is a quote from the book: The Richest Man in Babylon written by George S. Clason.
