Environment in Cubatão “Death's valley in 80's”-part 4 - the tragedy in shantytown Vila Socó In the end of 80's the shantytown Vila São José, people called Vila Socó, socó is a kind of bird very common, it was on the petrol pipeline and happened a leaking of petrol. The Petrobrás workers know about the leaking and wanted to call the firefighters but the managers said to them waiting for engineer came from the city near to he saw the problem. During this time happened a explosion and the shantytown was burning. Many people dead and burned. The information was dead 500 people but many people believe that dead more people. The petrol polluted the tide where stayed the shantytown. Today is neighborhood Vila São José , people avoid to call Vila Socó, but it don't have houses over the petrol pipelines and they have signs to show the place where they pass.
