Frazzled Today I´ve learnt that if you are overworked, exhausted or/and stressed, you are frazzled. It is a funny word. But the meaning it is not funny at all. With funny I mean... You use the same word for this kind of feeling and for broken things, like frazzled shirt. Am I right? Maybe I´m not. Please guys, may you help me with the different uses of this word? Thanks!

You got the uses of this word exactly right with your original sentence, it means someone who is feeling exhausted or stressed out. 'Frazzled shirt' doesn't make sense. If a shirt is a damaged there are many ways to describe it depending on what happened 'ripped shirt', 'torn shirt', 'ruined shirt' etc.

Hi, I think the word you were thinking of was "frayed", as in, "This shirt has a frayed edge." But "This shirt edge is frazzled" would sound fine to me, too. Don't confuse it with this shirt, though, which is fraggled: http://www.ebay.com/itm/80s-Classic-Fraggle-Rock-The-Great-Trash-Heap-custom-tee-Any-Size-Any-Color-/310344802482

Hi Sandra,

This is a funny one, because frazzled usually means burnt.  You wouldn't really use this word to describe an object unless it was burnt (frazzled) . Its how something might look after getting an electric shock! If you google 'frazzles crisps ' and look at the images you might get a better idea! So, when talking about the person, 'frazzled' means burnt out, which is the same as overworked, exhausted etc, so you were right ☺
