learn about the chinese history from 1840 --- 1945. then you will know why chinese are 不自信. To be explicit, this should be called 文化自卑.

chinese 文化自卑 comes from two facts:

1) long history

2) the history from 1840 --- 1945

Both of them are necessary. If one of them misses, then chinese definitely wont be 不自信 today.

Why dont we like to say "thanks":

In china, some words like "你好", "thanks" are mostly used for the official case. Or people say these when they meet some stranger. We never use them among friends or families. If u use these word to your chinese friend, he will think like this: why do u say "thanks", aren't we stranger? you dont regard me as you friend?

BUT, today, things changed. chinese people are using these words more and more even among friends and families. This is because the western culture has an strong influence on China.

QQ的中国朋友

我很高興我学习会了使用QQ，我收到有很多中国朋友的请求 ，可是我发现他们都不使用自己的照片，而是使用别人的照片，而且還所以不使用自己的名字。我不明白这是怎麼回个事。中国朋友说：「中国人沒有不自信」，我不明白，中国人的中文很棒，为什么沒有不自信？
中国朋友说中国人不喜欢说「对不起、谢谢」，所以他／她不要想要我說使用，我說使用了他们會不高兴，所以我也不高兴了，为什么不说对不起、谢谢？我不明白。：（
