"Vietnamese words, phrases and terms that Vietnamese do not even know" the series. Note 1 Hi guys!(or should i say "Chào các bạn") So today, we are going to talk about Vietnamese words, phrases and terms that Vietnamese do not even know. Yes, it is a freaking long tittle for a series. I have to catch my breath to read it too. =) Welcome to my always extended world of words. I got the inspiration from one of childhood favorite books: Nguyễn Nhật Ánh's "Mắt biếc".It is a great book with an unexpected ending. I will not tell what the story is about because i do not want to spoil out the story (So put on your reading glasses guys). I do not know whether it was translated to English or not. If you do know which blog had translated it, please share it to everybody. If you are interested in translating for the sake of knowledge and sharing the good, please contact me.You can send email, skype or twitter. i will leave it till the end. Enough with the chatting. I have a question for you. what the first thing appear on your mind when you hear the phrase "mắt biếc"? You will definitely think about big, deep beautiful blue eyes. They would properly as blue and deep as the autumn lake. Then you are on the same page with my friends and me. The truth is....we are wrong. Not entirely, but still wrong. It is true that "mắt biếc" is a very beautiful and rare. But it is not what you think it is. Accounting on dictionaries and what i collected on Mr. Know It All (aka Google), the meaning is: "Mắt biếc" is the phrase used to describe eyes that so innocent enough to have not ever seen or been touched by the evil of the world. For that, the evil of the world always desire for those eyes (or at least the owner of them). And they have kind of sadness. The colour is not important, just the spirit is.Personally, i think most them are brown even though the colour doesn't matter. But the truth doesn't support my brown eyes crush. >< Then why we all think about blue eyes instead? It because the word "biếc" have been a companion with the word "xanh" (meaning: blue or green"). The phrase "xanh biếc" have been digging in our mind for so long. So i guess everything is clear now. I hope you guys enjoy my freaking lame and long note. Please leave my comment how you feel. I do appreciate the kindness of "Thanks" but i'm quite greedy. ^O^ So please leave a comment.
