Obligation of military service in Korea Korean have four kind of obligations. The one of them is military service. The men over 20 years must enlist in an army for 2 years. It's very difficult to adapt themselves to be a soldier. All my friends were discharged from the military service. They were about to enlist in the army, they were arduous. Sometimes, they rang me in the army and made an appeal. I don't know correctly how difficult it was. Because I've never been going on the army. The men that have specific circumstances don't have to enlist the army. They go to an army recruit training center only a month and be discharged from the military service as a private. Instead of be a soldier, they must work for a goverment office for 2 years. For example, there're a metro, a fire station, a down-block office, etc. In my case, I have to work in an elementary school and I'm finishing working next month. I don't know an article and a preposition. It's very very confusing... Thanks for reading!

* "about to enlist" means they had not enlisted yet at that point - it was before they started serving in the milirtary. Therefore, I am not sure what kind of emotion/condition you are trying to describe: eager? worried? anxious? scared?

** Did they ask for something? Did they share stories of how difficult it was?

*** How very true! Even native speakers have difficulties with them sometimes :)

Good luck with your work! I am now curious what are the other 3 obligations :)
