Lost and Found (Speech) In a complex society like the one we are living in, you have to admit that it’s almost impossible to keep what you have forever. Therefore, losing is something inevitable. You can easily lose you way in a big strange city. You can lose your temper just because somebody said something stupid. Or, you can simply lose your speech draft on a morning bus, like I did. However, none of those can be compared with the tragedy of losing one’s self. The state of being lost mostly comes from the huge disconnection between who you are and who you expect to be, and that cause disappointment, which leads to anxiety. After that, gradually lose you lose direction. Once you no longer have direction, you are lost. When you are lost, all is lost. I don’t know how you feel, but it sounds pretty serious to me. I mean it’s not like I’m trying to make a big deal of it, it happened in real life, it happened in my life. Two years ago, before I came to Dalian, a girl in my old school (let’s call her Jessica) jumped from the third floor of the school building, attempting to commit suicide. Luckily, she was saved, and when people asked her why she did it, she cried, and said a lot about how she failed her so called very important mid-tern exam, and how she no longer felt like a “good student”, and how she lost hope under the great pressure. And that’s when it hit me: she’s lost. She tried to kill herself because she was lost. She was lost in the things that didn’t really matter. She was lost in the cycle created by on one but herself, the cycle which eventually broke her down. Here’s the problem, if losing self can cause such damage, to self, to others, physical, emotional, then what do we do to release ourselves from the horrible effect? What do we do to find the lost self? The answer is: accept, reset, and enjoy. Accept for who you are, accept the life you are living in. If you are not satisfied with it, then reset yourself, go work for it, change it, make it better. Then you can enjoy the result, and I’m sure you will enjoy the result. So if you feel lost, do as I outlined previously in my speech to find yourself ASAP. We don’t need another Jessica, or another beautiful life ruined by self destruction. Find the lost self, find peace, before it’s too late.

Hi Yifei, That was very well written. I'm not going to offer corrections, as I'm sure others will. However can I suggest that for your speech, you tell the story of Jessica from the start. That will engage your audience more in your message. Also talk more about your key point: The answer is... . 问候 Doug
