The basilica is built on a promontory overlooking the sea of 124m, in north of Algiers. It's accessible by a cable car. It's considered "the twin sister of the Marseille's Church Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde (Our Lady of the guard.)"
The basilica is nicknamed "Madame Africa" or "Lalla Myriem" by nearby residents. It is a "symbol" of the cultural mix and religious coexistence for 160 years.
