The memorial of the martyr The memorial of the martyr or the Sanctuary of the martyr (Arabic: مقام الشهيد, Maqam E'chahid) is a memorial overlooking the city of Algiers, erected in 1982 to mark the 20th anniversary of the independence of Algeria (5 July 1962), in memory of the dead of the war of independence.
