A really neglected city – Can you image which is it? The last book I read was “In the country of last things” by Paul Auster. It has been my first not adapted book written in English and, despite of that, I have to say that I have really enjoyed reading it. This book is about a future dystopia that takes place in a grand and well-known city of USA. The main theme of the film is the search for a missing man in a neglected society. The story is writing in first person by Anna Blume, the main character. She leads the reader into a new world characterized by massive unemployed, lack of food and housing, sore the price of basic consumer goods, and, consequently, a widespread desire to die. The story grips you and keeps you turning the pages, especially when Anna begins to meet the other characters of the book. One of them has a particular way of being and living that ensures an amazing second part, in which he is the main character. Love, friendships, murders, vanishings,… You can find them all reading this special book. The country of last things is a delight to read. I can only hope that from a writer of this talent, the following part will be as exciting as the first one is indeed.
