Mi español...

Ayer la abuela de mi hija estuvo en mi casa. Ella es de Chile y yo le hablé. Cuando ella habló, yo estuve sorprendida porque ella habló rápido y todavia yo lo entendi casi todo. Estoy feliz porque todos los dias aprendo palabras nuevas y veo mi progreso!

I can undertand what you mean by "Ella es de Chile y yo le hablé" but it sounds more natural if you say: "Ella es de Chile y estuvimos hablando"

I also understand: "Cuando ella habló, yo estuve sorprendida porque ella habló rápido" but it sounds more natural if you say: "Cuando ella habló, me sorprendí porque ella habló rápido y yo lo entendí casi todo"
