Luang Prabang in my eyes I still remember the first day when i stepped out the Luang Prabang International Airport. It was a hot appalling summer day in mid of August. A semi-car picked me up then sent to a small boutique wooden guest house near Mekong River bank. Both the driver and hotel waitress were so impressive with fluent English and some couple of Vietnamese common phrases. They greeted me by "ສະປາຍດິ" (Sabaidee - Hello) and a Welcome drink flowered by fresh frangipani (Champa flower - National flower of Lao). I was so surprise by the perfume from the drink, which made from dried frangipani, boiled with lemongrass and Laos lime, added brown sugar. It smelt so good and helped me recover after a long trip from Hanoi. Luang Prabang is pretty attractive with the colonial architecture since French came and settled the management in 1945s. The main religion is Thevada Buddhism, blended deeply into the local custom and art so almost constructions performed an elegant mixture between Buddhism soul and modern - vintage of European. Luang Prabang is in the North of Laos, laid itself to the shoulder of Phousi Mountain and surrounded by Mekong and Nam Khan River. The weather consists of two seasons: rainy season (from May to September) and dry season (from October to April). During rainy season, it often rains after 03 pm till the mid-night, then dry and hot. The winter (perhaps) usually starts by the late of December till mid January (normally there are 15 days coldest per year, in which the temperature can drop into 10 degrees). I love riding my Bontrage Bike around the Old Quarter everyday after working hour. The ancient city looks like a little girl ashamed in the late light. With 33 temples and the major tree is frangipani, I find the peaceful atmosphere at every single corner of Luang Prabang, the feeling that, could touch my soul in the deepest way and i could not speak out anymore. Take a fruitshake and keep your bike off, climb to the top of Mount Phousi, enjoy the sunset, release a bird as an offering to the holy Wat Chompsi, you will have a chance to obtain the panorama view of whole Luang Prabang. Then, come down and attend the Night Bazaa, with variety choices of handmade textiles, handicrafts, local specialties, it could full-fill your empty lonely day within 5 minutes! I met lots of foreigner friends in Night Market. Just by a single Hello, or helping bargain with the seller by Laos language, we can talk, sharing a glass of beer Laos. Unforgettable!
