Obesity – Reasons and Solutions In some countries the average weight of people is increasing and their levels of health and fitness are decreasing. What do you think are the causes of these problems and what measures could be taken to solve them? Over the last few years, there has been a significant growth in the number of obese people and it has become one of the most talked about concerns. The objective of this essay is to investigate the factors contributing to this issue and also suggest some solutions for it. It is undeniable that living in a modern society has had a huge impact on every aspect of human life. Nowadays many are working in an office and spend almost 8 to 10 hours behind their desks and when they are back home from work they would probably be too tired to even prepare a meal let alone work out. Apart from this, a great number of people have developed a tendency to use a vehicle wherever they want to go and the reason might be that they want to be right on their daily schedules and save time for more important things. Furthermore, one could find almost all kinds of fast foods on every corner of a city and considering its amazing taste it would be a good choice instead of cooking. In addition, being bombarded by numerous fast food advertisements, there is no wonder why the majority of people nowadays are drawn to these junk foods. However, there are several solutions to deal with this problem. First and foremost, government could make a huge difference by both setting a high price to fast foods while decreasing that of the organic foods. Consequently, this action would probably encourage people to buy healthier food products. Secondly, with the help of the media and making more programs such as “The Doctors” and “Dr. Oz” which are providing people with new recipes and useful information to lead a better and healthier life, it would be possible to encourage individuals to change their lifestyles. To conclude, I think reasons behind this ever increasing number of obesity are modern life and people’s unhealthy eating habits. Therefore, it would be a considerable measure for the government to allocate a sizeable budget for developing the fitness facilities.

Obesity – Reasons and Solutions

In some countries the average weight of individuals is increasing and at the same time levels of health and fitness are decreasing. What are the causes of this, and what measures could be taken to solve it?

In recent times, there has been a significant growth in the number of obese individuals. This is a serious health concern. The objective of this essay is to investigate the factors contributing to this trend and suggest ways that it can be addressed.

It is undeniable that living in a modern society can have a huge negative impact on health. Working long hours in a polluted and stressful office environment, being tied to a chair and a desk while staring at a computer monitor for 8 to 10 hours can be gruesome and tiring to the body. This often leaves the typical worker devoid of energy when his day is over at the office.

Excessive use of vehicles for even the most minor errands that can be easily done by walking or bike riding is another contributing factor to the sedentary way of life we modern humans have gravitated towards. The more sedentary we have become the more rampant our health challenges such as obesity. Hectic daily schedules and the rush to save time is another factor contributing to excessive vehicle usage.

Possibly the biggest factor of all contributing to this obesity epidemic is fast foods. In every corner of every city you can find fast foods, laden with unhealthy fat and huge calories per meal. They are cheap and taste good, but are unhealthy. The average worker is too tired, too rushed, and probably can't even afford more healthy food choices. Additionally, he is bombarded by advertisements promoting fast foods. There is no wonder that an increasing number of people get most of their daily food intake from these junk foods.

However, there are solutions. Below are two solutions which would involve governmental action.

A tax on fast foods would make them more expensive and therefore less appealing. At the same time subsidizing organic foods would make them more readily available and should, in theory, reduce the price consumers pay for them. In time this may reverse the current trend of more and cheaper fast foods and less and more expensive organic foods.

Another action government can take is to encourage the media to make more programs such as “The Doctors” and “Dr. Oz”, to teach people about food and health. Such programs can be used to encourage individuals to change their unhealthy lifestyles.

To conclude: the reason behind the ever increasing number of obesity; is the way modern life has been structured and unhealthy eating habits people have developed. To get the society back to a healthier weight, governmental involvement maybe one solution to the puzzle.

-I shortened some sentences that were too rambling, and used commas in a few places to remove excessive 'ands'.

-I changed 'good' to 'easy' because the point of your essay is that fast food is not a 'good' choice :)

-'Ever-increasing' needs a hyphen because it is a compound adjective.
