The School System in the U.S.
The school system in the U.S. is divided into three levels: elementary school, middle school (sometimes called junior high school), and high school. In almost all schools at these levels, children are divided by age groups into grades. The youngest children begin in kindergarten and continue until twelfth grade, the final year of high school. The school year is divided into two semesters. Higher education is often called College in the US.
