use of "that"

when use "that" and when not?

It's possible to omit "that" when it introduces an object restrictive relative clause: "he's the man that (or whom) I told you about" or "he's the man I told you about." We cannot do that when it refers to the subject "he's the man that told me about you," or "he is the man who told me about you."
