Landslide in Colombia. (Can anyone correct me please?) Last Monday, a landslide hits one small town in Colombia, called Puerto Salgar. The consequences of that event: 94 casualties and innumerable amount of affected persons and economical losses. Once again on the news appears the Tittle “A tragedy that could be prevented”, and it´s not a joke. Just 11 months before of the disaster, the national government was discussing different mitigation strategies to apply in Puerto Salgar, but as always, all the agreements stayed just in papers. Some funds was assigned to cover projects related to mitigation and preparedness, but the national burocracy slow down all the process and the money wasn´t able to be used by local authorities to develop the projects mentioned before. This situation will continue occurring in the country unless the national government create financial tools that speed up the availability of funds allocated for disaster risk prevention.
