Gaeilge 1

Scríobh mé seanfhocal an chéad: Is fearr Gaeilge bhriste ná Béarla cliste.

It's not clear what you mean in the first phrase: maybe "my first proverb" (<em>mo chéad seanfhocal</em>) as Claire suggests, or "the proverb of the century" (<em>seanfhocal an chéid</em>).

<em>Bhriste</em> and <em>cliste</em> have no fada (accent) because the vowel is short, this is important and can change the meaning of words, for example <em>Gaeilge bhríste</em> would mean "trouser Irish" (whatever that would be!).

Gaelige 1

Scríobh mé seanfhocal an chéad: Is fearr Gaelige bhríste (h because Gaeilge is a female noun) ná Béarla (spelling) clíste.

Do you mean: My first seanfhocal? Mo chéad seanfhocal.

Maith thú!
