On this day in 1961, a Soviet pilot and cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin made the first human spaceflight in the history. The fright resonated around the world. It was a demonstration of the advanced Soviet space program and it opened an entirely new era in space exploration. Gagarin became a national hero of the Soviet Union. Newspapers around the globe published his biography and details of his flight. Moscow and other cities in the USSR held mass demonstrations. A year later the commemorative day was established in the Soviet Union. Since then every person in our country knew about this event from childhood. Many boys and even girls dreamt to become cosmonauts. Nowadays, at each anniversary teachers at schools and kindergartens tell children about Yuri Gagarin and his flight, make crafts on a space theme with them, organize various competitions and shows. TV channels broadcast documentaries, songs about Gagarin and the flight and the recording with the most famous of his phrases “Let’s go”. In 2011, April 12 was declared as the International Day of Human Space Flight. I am sure, that the space exploration is important. It helps people to understand the world in which we live and to unravel the mysteries of our universe. Solar system exploration provides us with an unparalleled opportunity to make advancements in science and technology, which can be a benefit to all of humankind.
