Does anybody know this Arabic proverb? I came across this supposed Arabic proverb, but I only have it in English. Does anybody recognise it, and happen to know what the original Arabic is? "When danger approaches, sing to it" With Google's help I came up with this, but I really don't trust it: عندما يقترب الخطر، والغناء له

I can think of a proverb : ابعد عن الشر وغنيله (This is in dialect)

In standard Arabic it will be, اِبْتَعِد عَنِ الشَّرِّ وَغَنِّ لَهُ

The Lit. transaltion is : Stay away from the evil, and sing to it.

Litterly it means : عندما يقترب الشر , غن له

In common language : ابعد عن الشر وغن له

Hope that helps

I was about to write the same proverb that Sleem wrote; it's the closest one to the proverb you have mentioned in your post and it's very famous in the Arab world. Google translation to Arabic is unprofessional and most of the time it's really funny ;) Good luck.
