The role of professional athletes in our society Many people think that professional athletes must make good role models. We can think that they are just athletes and because of that it’s not necessary they have a good behaviour. But these days, in our societies, they are public people with so much influence. Mass media write stories about them, they are in advertisement and a lot of children and teenagers dreaming with being like them. From a sociological view sports are very interesting thing, because it’s able to get people crying or smiling, people get being happy or being angry and in my opinion, it’s because sports have a sentimental component. When you’re a big fan of a club you feel love. That’s why professional athletes have to watch their behaviour outside sport. However, everything that happens with sports is disproportionate. I believe mass media give too much relevance to sport and athletes, I don’t know how is in your country but in Spain, it’s not strange that news open with Messi or Cristiano’s goals. In contrast, if scientists discover something it will be very difficult that they open news. Therefore, we should demand good behaviours to professional athletes because they had become not just in athletes but in role models for young people.

The role of professional athletes in our society

Many people think that professional athletes must make should be good role models. We can may think that they are just athletes and because of that it’s not necessary that they have a good behaviour. But these days, in our societies, they are public people with so much influence. Mass media writes stories about them, they are in advertisements and a lot of children and teenagers dreaming with dream of being like them.

From a sociological view sports are is a very interesting thing, because it’s able to get people crying or smiling, people get being happy or being become angry and in my opinion, it’s because sports have a sentimental component. When you’re a big fan of a club you feel love. That’s why professional athletes have to watch their behaviour outside of sport.

However, everything that happens with sports is disproportionate. I believe mass media gives too much relevance to sport and athletes, I don’t know how it is in your country but in Spain, it’s not strange that the news opens with Messi or Cristiano’s goals. In contrast, if scientists discover something it will be very difficult that they open the news.

Therefore, we should demand good behaviours to from (<em>or</em> of) professional athletes because they had have become not just in athletes but in also role models for young people.

Great stuff Moisés. There's a lot of good, advanced vocabulary in there. My corrections are in red and my suggestions to sound more natural are in blue/grey.

"it’s not necessary that they have good behaviour" - grammatically correct, although it would be more common to say "it's not necessary for them to be well-behaved" or "it's not necessary for them to behave well"

"in our societies" - I didn't correct this because I don't think it's wrong, but it's more common to just use the singular "in our society" even if you're talking about more than one. It would sound even more natural just to say "In today's society".

"sports are a very interesting thing" - I corrected this to be singular, because later in the same sentence you used the singular form <em>(it's)</em>. You could also have used the plural form as follows:

"sports are a very interesting thing, because it’s they are..".

"mass media" is technically singular, although in spoken English you will often hear it used in the plural sense. So you will probably see or hear "mass media give" and "mass media gives". It's a very minor correction, and I wouldn't worry too much over which version to use.

"it’s not strange that the news opens" - a more natural-sounding way to say this would be "it's not unusual for the news to open with..."

Similarly, "if scientists discover something it will be very difficult that they open the news" could be reworded as "if scientists discover something it would be very difficult for them to open the news".

But these days, in our societies, they are public people with so much influence. From a sociological point of view sports are a very interesting thing, because it’s they are ('sports' is plural) able to get people crying or smiling, people get being happy or being get angry and in my opinion, it’s because sports have a sentimental component. When you’re a big fan of a club you feel love. That’s why professional athletes have to watch their behaviour outside of sport.

However, everything that happens with sports is disproportionate. I believe mass media gives too much relevance to sport and athletes, I don’t know how is in your country but in Spain, it’s not strange that the news opens with Messi or Cristiano’s goals. In contrast, if scientists discover something it will be very difficult that they open news.

Therefore, we should demand good behaviour of professional athletes because they had have become not just in athletes but in role models for young people.
