Doubts On August 1 1980, the police were urgently called in. The call came from the house of one of the richest men in the country, Mr De La Sierra, the Urquijo marquess. The staff of the house found the man and his wife dead; they had been murdered. De La Sierra had been shot once and his wife twice. To make things stranger, the bodies had been washed. The police began to investigate and soon all the traces led to Rafael Escobedo, the marquess' ex son in law. He had been married for six months to De la Sierra's daughter and they never hit it off. Besides, the murder weapon belonged to Escobedo's father. In a nutshell, Escobedo was sentenced to 53 years. However, he died 5 years afterwards while in prison. At first they thought that he had taken his own life, but shortly afterwards it was known that he was poisoned. This fact cast many doubts on this case, since Escobedo never told whether or not he had had any accomplices. There are some more curious facts about this case. The butler of the house told the press several times that it was the marquess' own son who had ordered his murder. Although the police interviewed each and everyone who had had something to do with this case, they never knew whether Escobedo acted alone, or he had the help of somebody else.
