House or Home

I couldn't understand the difference between of house and home when I started to study English,
because both words house and home is  are changed to ie(家) in Japanese.
I asked my teacher about the difference between the two, but he couldn't answer.
A long many time has passed, I have a friend who is an has license of teaching English teacher and come from Guam.
I asked again.
He said that a mother makes a home and a father builds a house. Now I understand.
I could get and like it.

I suggest that, a)  you change your teacher and b) that a house is a building, and a home is where someone/people live. You can have "the dog's house", "the House of Lords".  You talk about your home town (it is where you come from/where you grew up).  You don't say my house town.

I could get and like it. (didn't quite understand what you meant)

thank you for comments. Yes I can see now. I think home can't be changed a Japanese word.

We have more expressions too: "home is where the heart is", and (song lyrics) "where I lay my head is home". A house is just a physical structure, it might be somebody else's home, but not yours.

Yes, the house is a building or structure. The home is where your heart is. You are comfortable there. The family, or pets, that you want to see are there. Your memories of good family times together may be there. We have an expression, I'm headed to the house. It basically means you are leaving your present location, such as at your job, and you are going to your place of more comfort, which is your home, but the emphasis is not on where you are going to, but what you are leaving behind, which is less desirable.
