Diner vs dinero

When I was a little kid, my English classes began and I remember one particular test. The test was a list of several words that we needed to translate (in)to english, one of those words was dinner and my answer was: "dinero" instead of "cena".
When the teacher corrected me in front of the whole class, they laughed at me.
That day was sad, I cried. I continued with my lessons and carefully tried not to commit any more mistakes, since then I refuse to talk in english. I know I´ve had errors in this little story but I don´t feel sad anymore and my next step is talk.
