First session I just had my first trial session with a native Chinese teacher. It was very overwhelming, to the point that after 45 minutes of relatively simple stuff, I felt like my brain was completely overloaded. I couldn't even look at pinyin anymore. Basically, this revealed to me that there is a big difference between reading/listening and speaking. My comprehension level is not good enough to be able to pick out phrases in speech. Even phrases I know pretty well. At first my reaction was that I need to study more on my own, but after thinking about it for a while I think I need the opposite. More exposure to native speakers, and things I am not comfortable with. Hopefully that will help me be less nervous, and I will learn faster.

plz remember:

if you use a different language, you will get a different world.

different language = different culture

If you learn chinese, I think the most important thing for you is that you will know how the chinese people think and how they see the world.

When I learnt English, my brain was overloaded.

When I learnt French, my brain was overloaded again...

This kind of feeling is so interesting.

Everything will be ok. When I first learned English, I could not remember the pronunciation of words so I wrote down pinyin below English words to help me remember. And dictating words is the most painful thing for me. But with the accumulation of words, everything, listening, writing, speaking is getting easier.Everything's hard in the beginning but A good beginning is half the success. Wish you success in learning Chinese.
