Mainit ako doon, palagi may pawis ako at mahiya ako kasi. Pagkatapos may halo halo kami. Ang sarap!

Part 3

= I sat at the front part of the jeepney and I had to pass the fare of the people/passengers on to the driver. “Sa harap” is also OK, but it usually means “in front of something”. (Not sure though why they had to pass their fare through you when they could have done so directly to the driver. Something to do with your being a hot number, maybe? :-) Seriously though, maybe what you meant was that you sat just behind the driver, the front part of the back area, in which case passing on the fare to him would be but natural. If so, that would be “naupo ako sa may likuran ng driver” = I sat behind the driver.)

= I was getting worried, but I (also/eventually = din) got used to it.

Naninibago ako pero nasanay din ako. = I was new to it (the experience), but I (also/eventually) got used to it.

= The jeepney is very cheap compared to the taxi, huh. - In Tagalog, that “huh” in the end would be “ha”, which would translate to something like, “take note”.

binisita ko ang fort santiago. = I visited Fort Santiago. - In this case, because the place is specific, the “binisita ko” would be appropriate as it would mean “to visit and check the place out”.

Doon, nagdraw kami ang mga gusali. → Doon, nag-drawing kami ng mga gusali. = There we drew/made drawings of the/some buildings.

Nalaman ko ang kwento ni Jose Rizal. = I learned of the story of Jose Rizal. (The Tagalog sentence though can also be taken to mean, “I learned of the story told by Jose Rizal.”)

= I learned of the story about Jose Rizal.

Pagkatapos may halo halo kami. → Pagkatapos nag-halo-halo kami. = We had halo-halo after. To say “may halo-halo kami” is to mean “we were in possession of some halo-halo”.

Ang sarap! = Very delicious!

Part 2

Mainit ako doon = I am very popular (like, a hot number) there. Really, Neil? :-)

Mainit doon = It was hot over there.

Nainitan ako doon = I found it hot over there.

Mainit doon.

It was hot over there. I always had sweat on me and I was feeling embarrassed because here people think that sweat is smelly/stinks.

Palagi akong pinapawisan = I was always sweating

Nagjeepney ako din. = Rode/Took the jeepney, I too → Nag-jeepney din ako. = I also rode/took the jeepney. We usually just say “nag-jeep” here.

= I know that Filipinos take the jeepney daily, but if you are a foreigner, it's rather intimidating to take the jeepney. It is not really wrong to say, “nakakatakot ang mga jeepney” to mean “riding jeepneys is intimidating”, but it also means “jeepneys are frightening by themselves”. Using "mag-jeep” (to ride the jeep) just makes the intended meaning clearer.

= I do/did not know where it's/they're going (its destination), but my friend knows/knew.

May alam ANG kaibigan ko. = My friend knows/knew (something about...).

Part 1

Ang bisita ko diyan sa Pilipinas = My visit there in the Philippines

- We use an idiomatic expression in Tagalog to say “just a few weeks”. It's “naka-ilang linggo lang” (to have had how many weeks only) and is usually just shortened to “ilang linggo lang”.

Just a few weeks ago, I visited the Philippines. Some of us may use “nakakaraan” (to have passed) instead of “nakaraan” (passed/past). We would also most likely say it as “bumisita ako sa Pilipinas”. We say “binisita ko” usually to mean visiting someone/something/someplace specific to check on things. “Bumisita ako” is more general.

= I was seen by my friends there in Manila.

= I saw (unintentionally) my friends there in Manila.

= I met up with my friends there in Manila.

(This would be broken Tagalog, so to speak.) = I choose a hotel that is near Greenbelt.

= Before I had no idea about how big Greenbelt is.
