The border conflict was not in the past, it is currently ongoing. Use the present tense.  You didn't feel bad in the past, you feel bad now.

Also, note the word soon isn't necessary in this example.
I want this conflict to end.
I want this conflict to end soon.

Try replacing vague words to communicate more clearly and to make more descriptive sentences.

For example you could write:

I feel bad about the escalating border tensions between Venezuela and Colombia because we are brother countries. Colombia has nice people and we love each other. I want this conflict to end.
