Learning some new English words

In recent times, I have manhandled [1] myself to make my English vocabulary thrive. According to a personal statistics, I've learnt 160 new English words. But I suspect that they became part of my passive vocabulary. Therefore, with the object of transferring them into my active vocabulary, I am forcing/compelling myself to write here using some of these words here.  My efforts ascend with a grating. [?? 2]  I feel I butcher my unruly brain sometimes, but I think it is nessesary in order to attain a level when it [?? 3] will become my ethos.

The entry looks strange, at the very least. It is just my insufficient imagination in using new words.

[1]  Use the "present perfect tense" when an action started in the past and continues until the present moment.

[2]  It is hard to understand the sentence "My efforts...."  If you paraphrase in English or write the sentence is Russian, I'll try again to help.

[3]  I'm not sure what "it" refers to.
