We exchanged our answers to "what have been imbued into us that might not be true" and talked about "the Lost City of Z".
Corrections:
for breakfast: I was told not to eat sweets for breakfast (not "at breakfast").
indigenous tribes: not "indigenous Indians' (one can use "indigenous tribes" for indigenous communities in other places on the planet.)
negotiate with: note "negotiate the Indian chieftain", but "negotiate with the Indian chieftain". ("with" is important).
loot from: they looted a huge amount of money from the Indian (not "they looted the Indians", which does not sound like a complete sentence.)
flourishing vs. flourished: the ancient civilization was once flourishing (not flourished).
nutrient poor soil: not "ill-nutrient soil".
patriotism: not "patritism".
The older I get: This is better than "the older I grow".
Vocabulary:
lack of energy/foggy/sluggish: If I don't eat breakfast, I become sluggish/lacking of energy (or my mind becomes foggy).
currency: Currency are made to be later debased.
Colonel: Colonel Fawcett. It seems this word could be misheard as "colonial".
Phrases:
Food industry cartel: the whole "health" food thing might be created by a food industry cartel.
to be on the fence: I'm still on the fence on whether we need to consume just "organic" food.
from the very start: From the very start, men are not born equal (I should be more optimistic since each person's experience can be unique).
their efforts were in vain / ended up with no results: this is better put than "their results were in vain" (note it is "efforts in vain", not "results in vain")
state of the art: Lynch and the journalist each used devices of the state of the art at their time.
to be kept hostage / was a hostage: not "he was on hostage" (in fact, it seems there is no such expression as "on hostage".
checkpoint: a place where soldiers guard to not let other people easily pass by (not "guard point").
Pronunciation:
aluminum: "lumi" as in "luminescent", not as in "alumni".
autonomous: the emphasis is on "to", not on "no".
indigenous: the emphasis is on "di", not on "ge" nor "in".
Others:
Fawcett's family motto: No Hardship can Terrify (us).
Question everything.
