Some explanation about 'leave for work' and '去'.
I go to work at 8 = I leave for work at 8 = leave the house on the journey to work at 8. 我8点(离开家)去上班。
I get to work at 8:55. = I arrive at work at 8:55. 我8点55到达work/公司/办公室。
I start work at 9. = I begin work at 9. 我9点开始工作/上班。
I finish my work at 5 pm. 我下午5点完成工作。
I go home at 5:15 pm. = I leave the works at 5:15 pm. 我下午5点15(下班)回家。
I get home at 7 o'clock. 我下午7点回到家。
我八点上班 may means 'I start/begin work at 8.'
That's not word play.
