Strange sports. Part 1. Underwater hockey Today I'd like to review the article that my tutor Brett and me discussed during our last session. It's called "4 strange sports from around the world". I've made up some questions and answers for the first part. 1. Where do lesser-known strange sports come from? Part of them comes from very old cultural tradition. Another part is a new combination of two or more well-known sports. 2. How was underwater hockey invented? This type of hockey was invented to train divers in the British Navy in the 1950s. 3. How many players are in a team? A team consists of 10-12 people. 4. What is the difference in an outfit for normal hockey and underwater hockey? Equipment for an ordinary hockey game includes the array of pads while an underwater hockey player has only a diving mask and snorkel, large fins and a thick glove. 5. What is the main idea of this sport? The idea is similar to normal ice or field hockey and is to score by passing the puck through the goal of the other team. 6.What is special about the puck in this game? The puck is made of lead because it should be heavy enough to sink to the bottom of the pool. 7.What do players have to constantly? They have to resurface to breath the air in and then dive again to keep tracking of the puck and other players’ movements.
