Facebook and freedom In china, most people cannot use Facebook, Youtube and Twitter. Some people said: you don’t have freedom. I want to say there is no relationship between freedom and these social media, I don’t know the details about business between social media and China government. Every people should hear the story about Mr. Snowdon, all your person information is collected by all these media which are only controlled by U.S. The most dangerous is that there is a lot of rumour to ask people against the government and this information always listed on the first page which was designed by facebook or Youtube. All the Chinese don’t want that happed because we are not occupied by U.S and we can say no to these products if these foreign products have political motives. The most important is that we have Micro-blog, QQ/tencent, wechat, renren, youku and so on, the number of people who used tencent and wechat in china are much larger than the people who want to use facebook and twitter.

Facebook and Freedom

In China, most people cannot use Facebook, Youtube and Twitter. Some people have said, "You don’t have freedom." I want to say that there is no relationship between freedom and using these social media, I don’t know the details about business between social media and the Chinese government. Everyone people should hear the story about Mr. Snowden, all your personal information is being collected by all these social media which that are only controlled by U.S. The What is most dangerous is that there is a lot of rumours to asking people to be against the government and this information is always listed on the first page which was designed by Facebook or Youtube. All the Chinese don’t want that to happend because we are not controlled occupied by the U.S and we can say no to these products if these foreign products have political motives. The most important is that we have micro-blogs  QQ/Tencent, Wechat, Renren, Youku and so on, and the number of people who used Tencent and Qechat in china are much larger than the people who want to use Facebook and Twitter.

I disagree with your point of view, but in any case, above is a correction of your English. I would agree with Karl that is has much more to do with money, especially as China's new government is currently trying to promote their own Silicon Valley tech startup world with their own versions of Western companies like Amazon (Alibaba) or Youtube (Youku), because these wouldn't be as successful if Amazon and Youtube could be accessed in China without VPN. As for the political side of things, if the blocking of these Western websites in China were done by popular vote it would be entirely legitimate, but the situation is not like this: it is the Chinese government, not the people, who has the final say in the matter.

@Karl Franz As Chinese, I agree with you. Anyway, it's not bad for the Chinese and the world economy is always like that. Maybe it's not a bad thing for the world economy.

If you want this item discussed [as opposed to having it corrected grammatically], you should post it in Discussions. It might attract a great deal of attention from people here, and possibly also from the Italki moderators.

I do not think it has to do with the US government and you been tracked. I think it has to do with business. Money. Eliminating competition. Supporting your internal Chinese corporation infrastructure and businesses, that offer the same services. That's pretty much it. It all comes down to money man. Nothing more, nothing less. It always has been, and always will be. I am not saying it is bad or good. I am just giving you another perspective.
