# D - 3 : Read a magazine and describe the article which caught my mind : Ellis Island. A new life via Ellis Island Many of the immigrants came to America via Ellis Island from 1892 - 1954. They all arrived by ship and we're inspected before before entering USA in this Island. Annie Moore was the first Immigrant to come via this Island with here two brothers.There's a statue of her in the Island. Most third class passengers were poor and was hoping for a better future in America. They came from different regions from Europe : I Redland, Italy, Germany .... They brought their customs, traditions and possessions with them. Many medical test were conducted to make sure the immigrants were healthy and they had enough money to survive in America. After this test they had to answer 29 questions like "If they know to read and write", "how much money do they own "...Two in ten failed. If they didn't pass they had to stay in Ellis Island and if their situation didn't change they were sent back to Europe. The people who succeed the tests converted their money for American dollars and was ready to start their new life. It said that this place has become a # Immigration museum where we can learn more about their memories and stay. One highlight is that even Albert Einstein passed through Ellis Island.
