Past Continuous, Past Perfect, Past Perfect Continuous. - They stood under the shelter because it was raining, - The roads were wet because it had been raining all night, - He was broke. He had spent all his money. - I was having a nightmare when the alarm went off and woke me up. - His hand were covered in oil because he had been tried to fix his car all morning. Unfortunately, he managed to make it start. - When she opened the window she was happy to see it was snowing lightly. In fact, it had been snowing all night and snow covered all the rooftops. - When Mrs Morgan came into the classroom, the pupils were running around and screaming at the top of their voices. They were knocking chairs and desks and someone was drawing funny pictures over the board. - Although i had set off early, i got there there in late and everyone was waiting for me to start the meeting; the chairperson told me they had been waiting me for a whole hour. - When we got back from our holiday we discovered that someone had broken into our house, The burglars, however, dropped a piece of paper with an address on it as they were climbing out the window.
