Hello Kevin, Thank you for your insight. I do try to focus on what is relevant but what I have written here is from a list given to me by my teacher. I believe the sentences were created by him from the urduqaida website that gives words/pictures for each letter of the alphabets. Because "sword" is given under the letter ت I think that may be why he came up with this sentence. Also, that sounds like an interesting way to learn a language. Gives a neat perspective on what was important at the time.

Hi Talia. Just some food for thought: when I started to learn Urdu, I used a book called 'Teach Yourself Urdu in 2 months', which was originally printed 100 years ago. It was good; it taught me about grammar, but it talked about things like horse saddles and inkpots - things I would NEVER actually use in conversation. Some of these sentences, like 'the sword is original', may not be the most practical thing to learn, so as far as the material you are using to learn, you may want to consider what you would actually say in real life. This will make learning easier and more fun.
