How do you define “good at second language”? My ESL friends who have been studying since you were in junior high school! Some of you now live in English speaking country for a long time. Don’t you just hate someone telling you “Oh you speak good English” You now feel much worse. What made him to think that I just started learning English? In my case the accent is the main reason. I am traumatized by “ha” implies “don’t understand you”. I am immersed with English everyday because of my husband. Then one day, I saw this person with heavy accent explaining his belief on TV. It was obvious that he was highly educated with academic languages. Then I realized we should work on our accent, but need to aim to improve the content as well.

How do you define “good at second language”?

My ESL friends who have been studying since you they were in junior high school! Some of you them now live in English speaking country (because you are not specifying a country, you have to use the plural form here)countries (when you use a duration of time, you should probably use a different tense, like the present perfect continuous) and have been living there for a long time. Don’t you just hate someone telling you “Oh you speak good English”
You now feel much worse. What made him to think that I just started learning English? In my case the accent is the main reason. I am traumatized by “ha” implies “don’t understand you”. I am immersed with in English everyday because of my husband. Then one day, I saw this person with heavy accent explaining his (I think it sounds better if you use the plural here too, because you are not specifying what his "belief" is, so you are just talking in general) beliefs on TV. It was obvious that he was highly educated with on academic languages. Then I realized we should work on our accent, but need to aim to improve the content as well.
