Practice IELTS Writing Task 2 (Book-9, Practice-3) Topic: Some people say that the best way to improve public health is by increasing the number of sports facilities. Others, however, say that this would have little effect on public health and that other measures are required. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. Answer: Sports are helpful for both physical and mental wellbeing. Therefore, some people consider that increasing the number of sports facilities is the best way of improving public health. On the contrary, other people argue that without providing other health related measures will have little effect on public health by raising the number of sports facilities only. I believe that increase of both sports facilities and other health measures are necessary for ensuring better public health. To begin with, undoubtedly, there is a link between sports and better health. Sports keep people physically active that can regulate blood pressure and hormones. As a result, people can avoid health problems and feel fresh and happy. Many diseases are associated with lack of physical activities. For example, the main reason for obesity, high blood pressure, heart diseases is the insufficient physical activities. Moreover, sports allows contact with different people in the society and enjoy the moments together. Consequently, depression is reduced and mental health condition is improved. However, increasing sports facilities alone cannot improve public health. For instance, malnutrition and imbalanced diet are significantly responsible for poor public health. The fast foods, enriched with fat and high calories, consumed in this modern age, lead to many health problems. Diabetes, heart diseases, obesity and other diseases that are common in current population are caused by poor food habits. Moreover, controlling and curing some diseases, such as Evola, have nothing to do with sports, but improved medical and other health care facilities. Additionally, people who do not like sports will require gym facilities to keep them fit. In conclusion, I believe that both sports facilities and other measures should be improved and made more available to achieve a better public health. Focussing only one part is not sufficient because all of them are essential parts of the improved public health.
