How I became more confident in public speech delivery Hello, everyone. I am Shawn from China. I have developed my habit to practise English with native speakers on skype for a long time. At the same time, I try to help them with their Mandarin or Cantonese study, which I really consider as a win-win situation because not only do we learn about grammar and language but also we get to know each other's cultural differences. When I was back then in university, I used to be very shy and I really hated to speak in front of the public. I could still remember the first time when I had to give a speech in front of my classmates because I wanted to run for the class monitor. Although I did win the election, during the whole time when I was speaking, I had to refer to a piece of paper I had written before hand to make sure that I didn't forget what I wanted to say. Since then, I decided that I should make some changes about me. I joined in a speech delivery class in English and started my practice journey. At first just being able to stand on stage and speaking in a natural way was a big challenge for me as I had never done that before. With time going by, what I surprised me was that I was gradually making progress not only in English delivery skills but also improved my confidence when I spoke Chinese. Here I want to give special thanks to my teacher that time. Without her, I could have never been able to step out of my comfort zone and try to practice public speaking skills. Without her, I could have never learned speech delivery in such a systemetic way that I feel so beneficial to my career development. At the same time, I try to help them with their Mandarin or Cantonese study, which I really consider as a win-win situation because not only do we learn about grammar and language but also we get to know each other's cultural differences.

When I was back then in university, I used to be very shy and I really hated to speak in front of the public. Back in university, I used to be very shy and I really hated to be up speaking in public.

I could can still remember the first time when I had to give a speech in front of my classmates because I wanted to run for the class monitor. Although I did win the election, during the whole time when I was speaking, I had to refer to a piece of paper I had written beforehand to make sure that I didn't forget what I wanted to say.

Since then, I decided that I should make some changes about me. I joined in a speech delivery class in English and started my practice journey into practicing English public speaking. At first just being able to stand on stage and speaking in a natural way was a big challenge for me as I had never done that before.

With time going by, what I surprised me was that I was gradually making progress not only in English delivery skills but also improved my confidence when I spoke Chinese. As time went by, I was surprised to see myself making gradual improvements in English speaking and also becoming more confident in speaking up in Chinese.

Here I want to give special thanks to my teacher that time. Without her, I could have never been able to step out of my comfort zone and try to practice improve public speaking skills. Without her, I could have never learned speech delivery in such a systematic way that I feel has been so beneficial to my career development. Without her, I could have never entered a colorful and vivid world with a secret map which needs English to unlock.
