"Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood" Maybe some of you know the book "The 7 habits of highly effecitve people". One of the habit which is explained there is "Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood". This habit may seems obvious, but when I thought about it for a while I found out that it's one of the hardest* habits to implement in my life. Covey writes that we should listen to people, try to understand them and then talk. In my daily conversations there is a lot of interrupting. Me and my friends often don't want to listen- we want to talk. When I started listening to people around me more carefully I found out that it gives me more than when I'm talking. I also think that people really appreciate when someone listens with attention what they want to say. On the other hand I think it is really important to know when to stop a conversation. In our lifes there is a lot of useless talking. I think it is important to have some kind of harmony* in our lifes. We should talk with people, read and improve our skills (and much more), but everything in good proportions. *I think that this word is not the best choice, but I'm trying to write without glossary ;-) Thank you in advance for checking it ;-).

"Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood"

Maybe some of you know the book "The 7 habits of highly effective people". One of the habits which is explained there is "Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood".
This habit may seem obvious, but when I thought about it for a while, I realised(sounds better) that it's one of the hardest habits to implement in my life. Covey writes that we should listen to people, try to understand them and then talk. In my daily conversations there are a lot of interruptions. Me and my friends often don't want to listen- we want to talk. When I started listening to people around me more carefully I found out that it gives me more (more what? maybe.. more satisfaction) than when I'm talking. I also think that people really appreciate when someone listens with attention to what they want to say.
On the other hand I think it is really important to know when to stop a conversation. In our lives there is a lot of useless talking. I think it is important to have some kind of balance in our lives. We should talk with people, read and improve our skills (and much more), but everything in good proportions.

*I think that this word is not the best choice, but I'm trying to write without glossary ;-)

Thank you in advance for checking it ;-).
