It is often argued that job hopping have negative consequences to a person’s career perspectives, whereas other insist that seeking a new job frequently pushes the career forward. This essay will suggest that and the bad reputation of job hopping is the main disadvantage of it and the possibility of receiving a bigger paycheck is the biggest advantage. It is often claimed that employers reject hiring job jumpers. This is because recruiters think that people who leave their jobs too often lack clear views of what kind of career they want to pursue. Not only are job hoppers regarded unstable, but also selfish and disloyal to their employers. According to a survey from the University of Helsinki, 43 percent of hiring managers would not consider hiring a job-seeker who has quit his or her previous position within six months. Thus, it can be argued that the negative image of job hopping is a burden in a recruitment process. Nevertheless, it can also be argued that trying different jobs can help people find the right fit. The younger people try the various types of work, the more aware they will be about their strengths and weaknesses. Moreover, job jumping might also be an efficient method in negotiating a promotion or a higher salary. A study conducted at the University of Helsinki stated that job hoppers earned approximately twice as much as their counterparts who have stayed in the same position over ten years. In conclusion, I would argue that although job hopping might have an negative image, searching frequently for a new position might help in getting higher-paying jobs. It is predicted that job hopping will be seen valuable in the future, as the number of permanent vacancies will decrease in general.
