Vocabular My passive Russian vocabular is about 74000 words ( I took this on-line test - http://www.myvocab.info). And what about English?)) Based on the results of http://testyourvocab.com, I know 3480 English words... Not many(( Since one of the best ways to enlarge vocabular is reading, I am going to repeat thes test when I read The Catcher in the Rye. I hope it will take not more than a couple of months. I will try to read every day, 20 minutes at least. I am starting today. Wish me luck!))

Before I take the test Liudmila, 74000 seems like a lot! My Russian vocabulary is probably under 10.

However, what you have written is easily understood.

I wish you luck, but wonder how much English had changed snce that book was written.

не в моем случае - я с 2х страниц выписала 21(!!) слово, так что я продолжу читать эту "маленькую книжку")) У меня цель до 8000 добраться.

у меня показал 11,000, хотя все это коту под хвост когда я говорю, новые выученные слова не приходят на ум при разговоре

Над пропастью во ржи маленькая книжка, ее можно осилить за неделю. Я например начал читать Джеймса Клавелла, вот это уж я думаю засяду на месяца-два... на русском я за месяц осилил 1000 страниц Сёгуна. А щас решил его Whirlewind прочесть в оригинале, это жесть, через каждую строчку заглядываю в словарь
