16 years passed since Armenia’s invasion in Aghdam
16 years have passed today since the invasion of Armenian armed forces in the Azerbaijan’s Aghdam region.
Armenian aggressors occupied Aghdam region of Azerbaijan on July 23, 1993.July 23 1993 is the one of the worst days of Azerbaijan history. On this day one of the biggest operations of Daqliq Qarabaq war took place. Unfortunately, Azerbaijan underwent its following defeat in these operations. The targets of Armenian aggressors, imposing on confusions in Azerbaijan, were Aghdam and Aghdere regions. The first attack of Armenian aggressors armed to the teeth to Aghdam region was unsuccessful as they assembled all forces near Aghdere. On June 26, 2006 Armenians reached to their repulsive plan and occupied Aghdere. So the way leading to Aghdam was opened for aggressors. Armenians attacked to Aghdam. As conclusion of these military operations Aghdam, one of the historical regions of Azerbaijan was occupied on July 23, 1993.
Armenian invaders occupied 882 sq km of 1092 sq km territory of Aghdam on July 23, 1993 and expelled 128 thousand people from their homes. 122 villages, 24 446 dwelling buildings, 48 industrial and construction facilities, 160 schools, 65 health centers, 373 cultural centers, one theater, three mosques and two museums were burned and destroyed completely as a result of the occupation. Grave military crimes were committed during the invasion in Aghdam. It is the largest region of Azerbaijan for the number of martyrs it gave during the Karabakh war. Nearly 6 000 residents of the region were killed in the battles with the Armenians. The war caused 13 billion 135 million USD damages on the region. (look at the photos of previous Agdam and present)
