Can someone recommend some good materials for Japanese self study?

Ms Help
Hi, all. I am trying to learn Japanese now. Just a starter. Do you have any suggestions for me or any recommendation for online resources?

Konichi wa.  Watashi wa Orlando Celis desu.
Una excelente página para aprender asuntos relacionados con la cultura Japonesa y aprender un poco de ese maravilloso idioma, es www.verjapon.com
especial para hispanoparlantes que quieran empezar a entender a los Japoneses.

I like the book Genki for self-studying.
They have some resources up on their site:

I would recommend "Pimsleur's Japanese" and "Rosette Stones" materials.

I'm studying with Pimsleur's and it helps me alot.
I also have the notes for all the 3levels in Pimsleurs Japanese 1 2 3.

put the audio tracks in your mp3/ipod and print the notes so you can study on the train/buss or on your free time at the job.

if you buy pimsluer japanese on the internet it will cost you around 800USD total.
so try find a friend and ask him/her to send you the audio tracks + notes.

I hope you can all the Hiragana and Katakana.. if not study them at www.yesjapan.com good games to help you remember the symbols.
It will take you max 1 week :) then go on with the pimsleur japanese finish the 3 level they have then go for Rosette Stones and repeat..

if you like to have more information, mail me :)

Hi,

Try using Genki series books or Erin´s Challenge. The one I would never recommend is Minna no Nihongo because it has poor grammatical notes and bad translations. So with the ones I have already told you, think you will be ok.

Cheers

http://www.renshuu.org/
My favorite site for self-study. Has pre-built lessons for most of the popular textbooks such as Genki and Japanese for Busy People, plus material for JLPT and Kanji Kentai.

I just remembered that there are a ton of MIT course materials online for free. They got a bunch of language classes up too, including Japanese. Check it out: http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/Foreign-Languages-and-Literatures/index.htm
