A chapter a day keeps the teacher away

tarak
Hi dear members,
First of all, teachers shouldn't be offended by this title. I am a teacher myself.
In the same way the proverb "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" doesn't undermine the importance of doctors in our lives, the title doesn't imply that teachers should be kept away. Teachers' role has always been respected and it will always be.
The idea is simple: Through this group, we are endeavouring to make learners of English on italki adhere to a more principled approach to improve their language. Reading is, in fact, a great and proven way to master any language. So, the idea is to pick a book online (through a vote) and read a chapter every day. After reading that chapter, the members of the group are expected to prepare 5 questions. The best questions and answers will be chosen by the members.
Looking forward to your feedback and suggestions.

Hey Layla,
A comment at last :)
No, seriously, I am so glad you like the idea. Actually, I will not choose the book myself. It will be chosen and voted by the members of the group. And you are completely right about the level. If any other members will opt for this idea, we can choose various books for different levels. If you like, we ( you and me) can start by picking a title abd see how far we can get. I know that the idea of reading a whole book is rather daunting for a lot of people. Some are here just to learn the basics. But, I also know that you are highly motivated and you are the kind of persons who want to always challenge themselves and take their skills to the next level. So, we can start and wish others will eventually join us.
Do you have any suggestions for the first book to read?
looking forward to your reply.

On my list , there is: Dan Brown's: the Davinci Code (novel), Steven Pinker's The LAnguage Insticnt (liguistics: a classicand a best-seller for many years) Edwar Said's Orientalsim (politics). But i think we can start with K .Hosseini's The Kite Runner. Tell me when you are ready to start.

Because of the limitations (only 1000 characters are allowed here) I uploaded the first discussion about the book the resources section of the site. You can download it, read it, add your comments, questions, discussion and upload it again.

Hi Tarek, it's an excellent idea. I share totally your point of view about reading. In effect, reading is very imporatant to improve any langage  skills. I adhere with you and encourage your proposition, but the first task to do is  to invite people to participate.

Hi Helmi:) Glad to see you here!
Yes, Helmi. Exactly, even if the idea is good it won't be of any value if it is not shared and done.
So, i am looking forward to seeing the members fo the group let us know what they think and how we can put this idea into practise :)
