Russian School
Russian school - русская школа - is quite different from other countries school system. In Russia we have overall 10 years of so-called “basic education” (базовое образование) – level that you need before you start preparing for acquiring some profession. Usually kids are ready to attend school when they are 7-8 years old. At this time they need to be able to read, write simple things, count and be disciplined enough for learning process.
Russian schools are located mainly at urban districts where there are a lot of people live in the blocks of flats. So if you have a kid, you need to attend school that is in your district. If you don’t like it for your kid, you can choose the better one, but there are some kinds of problems you’ll face while trying to move to the other school. High level Russian schools are mostly overcrowded and you’ll have to prove your right to put your child there (mostly using money, of course).
Learning process in Russian schools usually starts at 7 am till dinner – 40 minutes lessons with several short and one long break – перемена. When the current lesson ends there is bell that rings telling pupils they are free, and the same with the beginning of the lesson. After 10 years of studying there is a holiday called “Last Bell”(последний звонок) which usually is celebrated as a first step in an adult life. I believe everyone remember their “Last Bell” J
First 3 years (elementary school) in Russian school kids are learning basic disciplines like basic math, Russian language, English language, easy geography and etc. From 4 to 10 year there are a lot of tuff disciplines like physics, chemistry, high-level math, history, biology, economical geography and others. It’s interesting to know that in Russian schools pupils learn Russian language during all 10 years of studying! Wow, every Russian seem to be Russian learning professional J
